More about Clayton Faulconer!
I was poised to take the world championship in my weight class in 2018, but life has a way of changing our best laid out plans - for me, this was 4 major vehicle accidents.
I have always been an adventuresome type and when I got into armwrestling, it was just another outlet for my free spirit; but typical of my character, I wanted to be the best.
I was not a natually good armwrestler. One of my first contests was in 1991. This was a BC provincial contest and I placed close to last in both right and left arms. I trained hard with the Cranbrook wristwrestling club and after several years of training, I began to win. (it was called wristwrestling 30 years ago , but there is no difference between arm and wrist wrestling.
Through hard work, dedication and consistent training, I began to place in the top 3 at the Canadian national armwrestling championships.
I started to win and currently have nine first place finishes at the Canadian national championships. I have placed in the top 10 in the WAF world championships 5 times, competing at only 6 world events. As of 2025, I now have three North American armwrestling first place finishes.
My biggest achievement by far has been my recovery from four traumatic vehicle accidents that would seriously injure or kill most people. These accidents have left me with a series of permanent injuries, including a traumatic brain injury which is challenging every day.
I have overcome these challenges and the setbacks motivate me to move forward.
I realized that I will not be taken away from earth and the reason I am here is to teach people what I know best - how to be a champion if life !
I have made a pledge to keep no secrets.
Stats:
- Height: 6 ft
- Weight: I compete at 199lbs – 220lbs
- Pulling style: I know all styles and believe there are 5 things or styles needed to be a great arm wrestler: 1 - using the hook, 2 - using a toproll, 3 - dragging straight down and 4 - using side pressure, 5 using the straps when the hands come apart.
- Multiple time BC provincial champion
- 9-time national champion
30 time top 3 nationally
- 3-time North American Champion
- John Miazdzyk Award Recipient (2015)
- Inducted into the BC Armwrestling Association Hall of Fame (2018)
It is a miracle I survived not 3 (but 4) accidents - Look at the pictures and you will be amazed!
Accidents happen... that is why they call them accidents. (no one was killed in these accidents and they were not my error!)
Accident #1
I was driving a Toyota Celica and I collided with a car head-on. I had a major concussion, a broken jaw & cheekbone and lung damage. My car keys went through my right knee. My injuries were so severe that they induced a 4-day coma.
Accident #2
I was a passenger in Ford Ranger pick-up truck that ran into the back of a manure spreader driving illegally on the road. This was a "shity situation" This happened 5km West of Mission, BC Canada. I had a mild head injury, broken left wrist, broken ball joint in my right hip, and a femoral neck fracture.
Accident #3
While walking across a 6 lane street in Vancouver BC, Canada, I was struck by a car, thrown ahead 20' and then while the car was slowing down to stop, run over by it.
I got a severe head injury with an 6-inch laceration on the back of my head and was bleeding in the brain. I also had many broken bones, including my nose, ribs, face and severe lacerations above and below my left eye.
I had what is called a subarachnoid hemorrhage — a stroke caused by bleeding in the brain and they induced a coma for 10-days.
Accident #4 - 2024
After realizing how lucky I am to be alive, I said to myself that I could and would not get into another accident. But while across the world, training and travelling, I was hit from behind by a truck.
I was going 10 km/hr and the person that hit me was going 100 km/hr.
A seatbelt saved my life in three of four accidents I have been in - While in Thailand, I was surprised to see that people can drive with no insurance and very few people wear thier seatbelt I have had to dig the seatbelt reciever out from under the seat in many cases. The actual belt felt like new and seemed like they had never been worn.
Clayton Faulconer's - Autobiography
Written in 2024 by Clayton
To motivate people, I would like to talk about some of the losses and wins in life:
My journey has been incredible
I will start with some of my losses:
I am the miracle survivor and recovery from not 3, but 4 major vehicle accidents that would bring most people down!
#1 - head on collision north of Prince George BC – I suffered from lung damage / a head injury and a broken right kneecap
#2 - As a passenger, we hit a manure spreader (very shitty accident) near Mission BC – I broke my right hip, left wrist and cut my face.
#3 - while walking, I was hit by car while crossing Knight Street & 53rd avenue in Vancouver BC, Canada – I suffered a TBI (traumatic brain injury) and several broken bones.
#4 - recent (2024) - While away in Tailand, I was hit by a truck from behind. I was going 10 km/hr, the person that hit me was going 100 km/hr
To note: no one was killed in any of the 4 accidents I have been faced with.
Clayton has used 5 of his 9 lives - I am like a cat with 9 lives.
Life #1 - Near death when I was born – my blood was too thick – I was in an incubation chamber for over 3 months and had 10 blood transfusions. My body would thicken the blood given to me and I would need to get new thinner blood.
Lives #2-5 - 4 serious car accidents.
Now I will talk about my wins and comebacks in life:
· Black belt in Shito Ryu Karate
· 2005 “Body for life Canada”– top 10 finisher with over 40,000 competitors
· 9 time Canadian armwrestling champion and 3 time North American champion.
· Hosted and organised the 2015 Canadian armwrestling nationals competition in Vancouver and took two gold medals while hosting. My new goal is to host another National championship where I live in the west coast.
· I worked as a senior supervisor in management at a sawmill in Vancouver and gained the respect of all the employees and other managers while working there.
· I chose armwrestling as sport of my choice for many reasons: It has great people, is motivational, rewarding and strategic. It is challenging and keeps me lean, strong, light and in great shape in all areas of life.
· I am a lumber grading champion and double AA (no books) ticket holder in 3 different grading associations. I have taught the course.
· I live in North Vancouver, and in my opinion, it is one of the best places to live in Canada
· In 2018 – I lost 47 lbs in 3.25 months, and a month after losing this weight, won Canadian armwrestling competition in Montreal Quebec.
· I matured 15 years in a 4 year period after the 3rd accident in 2018.
I get knocked down, but I get back up and don’t stay down – I do what I have to, to move ahead.
People do not know this, but life is not easy for me. Each day takes me a great deal of hard work to fight the challenges that I have.
Everyone has challenges in life and I dont regret anything that has happeded in my life.
· My goal now is to live each day to the fullest and to promote being healthy and helping people.
· Fitness and armwrestling is what I know best and want to teach others what I have learned over the past 30 years. We can all be champions in life!
I can and will help all people with the desire to become fit and healthy. people with disabilities, women and children.
